Leap Year
1996 - The
3rd Quadrennial Festival
The Worldwide
Leap Year Birthday Club is now a four-day
festival! It
was featured on ABC's Good Morning America, and there were
19 members of the Worldwide Leap Year
Birthday Club on
the program including Mary Ann Brown. The
total Leapies at the end of the
event was around 68. The 4-day event
included a few thousand residents
and tourists who enjoyed chuck wagon breakfasts, hot air balloon rides, a
carnival, big-band swing dance, racing pigs, Road Rally type tours of the
Mesilla Valley and more. The
birthday party was complete with a huge
birthday cake, compliments of The
Pillsbury Company.
The Anthony, New Mexico Post Office was
designated "Leap Year Station"
and granted a commemorative
postal cancellation which is available to the
public at the Anthony, New
Mexico/Texas, Leap Year Capital of the World
post office.
The Worldwide
Leap Year Birthday Club is growing fast!
Members are from around 8 countries,
including the USA at this time.

Leap Year
1992 -
The 2nd Quadrennial Festival
The event expanded to a 2-day festival and a few thousand people
witnessed
the first Leap Year Day Parade. The events of the two days
included a Carnival,
Arts and Crafts Fair, Golf Tournament, Hot Air
Balloons, Hay Rides and a "42"
Tournament (a Dominoes game), to
name a few. Leap Day Babies came from
5 States and one from Germany!
They
celebrated their birthday with a huge cake.

Leap Year 1988 -
The 1st Quadrennial Festival
The Anthony, Texas/New Mexico Chamber of Commerce voted to sponsor
the World wide Leap Year
Festival. Leap Year Day
Baby, Mary
Ann Brown, founder of the festival and the
Worldwide Leap Year
Birthday Club, suggested the idea. Through
her hard work and
perseverance, a proclamation was issued to name Anthony, New Mexico/Texas
Leap year
Capital of the World. Mary Ann had only a month to
coordinate her first quadrennial
event. It was a small party of about 40 people
with nine Leap Year Babies in attendance.
